Cultural Leonesa made light work of Salamanca UDS in a club friendly on Friday, running out 5-0 winners at the Estadio Municipal de Leona. The result ended a run of mixed results for the hosts, who had drawn two and lost three of their previous five matches. Salamanca, meanwhile, were chasing a response after their heavy defeat to Celta back in December.
Leonesa took control early. A. Escobar opened the scoring in the twenty-fifth minute, and A. P. Benito P. doubled the lead before the break. To be fair, the visitors never really threatened, though they registered more attacks - ninety-four to seventy-seven - while possession sat even at fifty percent each side.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Benito added his second in the sixty-first minute, and M. Fernandez completed the scoring with two late strikes. By then Salamanca had already switched off at a set piece, and Fernandez picked one up in the eighty-second minute before adding another with seven minutes remaining.
The statistics tell a curious story. Salamanca had more attacks and corners - nine-four to seven-seven and seven to five - yet could not trouble the keeper. Two yellow cards for the hosts against three for the visitors suggests a scrappy encounter, though the goal difference says otherwise.
Leonesa's recent form shows they have been hard to beat - draws against Real Avilés and Real Sociedad B, losses to Athletic Bilbao II and Burgos. Salamanca's record is harder to read, with that seven-goal hammering from Celta standing out among otherwise modest results.
Friendlies rarely reveal much, but this one made its point quickly. Leonesa showed they can score at will, while Salamanca still have questions to answer before the season truly begins.
