Cultural Leonesa

The title that still defines Cultural Leonesa arrived in 1955, when the club won the Segunda División and earned promotion to the top flight. León finished 15th in 1955–56 and went straight back down. Those two years also brought the club's deepest runs in the Copa del Rey, to the last 16 in consecutive seasons.

It shut down between 1931 and 1939 and was rebuilt after the Civil War. In 1948 a match-fixing scandal nearly finished it off, and it survived only through the intervention of the provincial governor. Insolvency proceedings opened in 2009 and were not closed until 2021; in 2011 the club was demoted administratively to the Tercera División for unpaid wages.

In September 2015 the Qatari Aspire Academy bought 99.7% of the shares with the club facing liquidation.

The stay lasted a season. In 2019–20 Cultural knocked Atlético Madrid out of the cup and reached the last 16 again. Raúl Llona won the Primera Federación in 2025 and went up once more, then went down again in 2025–26.

Home is the 13,346-seat Estadio Municipal Reino de León, which carried the name Nuevo Estadio Antonio Amilivia from 2001 to 2008 and has never been sold to a sponsor.
