Sandviken Women secured a 3-1 victory over Gamla Upsala in the Elitettan Regular Season Round 16 on Friday, 29 August. The result leaves both sides in the bottom half of the table, with Gamla Upsala sitting 12th on 10 points and Sandviken 13th on 9 points after 16 matches each.
Sandviken took control in the second half. A. A. Sagstrom opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, and B. Tihi doubled the lead shortly after the 70th-minute substitution of Sagstrom herself. The hosts pulled one back through V. Hellman in the 84th minute, but W. Naslund restored Sandviken's advantage just five minutes later.
Both managers made several changes around the hour mark. Sandviken brought on S. Dahlman, N. Viggiano and M. Alvin together in the 58th minute, while Gamla Upsala introduced M. Andersson and L. Call in the 80th. Tihi was replaced by S. Sterner in the 84th, and Tihi came off again for B. Tihi in stoppage time. L. Matsgard picked up a yellow card for Gamla Upsala on the final whistle.
Both sides have struggled for consistency this season. Gamla Upsala's recent form shows two defeats in their last three league matches, including 0-1 losses to Umeå and Trelleborgs Women. Sandviken have been even more inconsistent, with heavy defeats to Häcken II and Göteborg bookending a 6-0 win over Kvarnsvedens IK Women.
The result does not shift either team dramatically in the standings. Gamla Upsala remain two points clear of Sandviken, but both are well adrift of the playoff positions. The match ended with Sandviken closing the game out, having found no answer from Gamla Upsala's late pressure.
