Gavião beat Altamira 2:0 on Thursday in the second round of the Serie B2 in the Pará state championship. The home side took all three points at their own ground, extending the pattern they established when they met earlier this season.
After this victory Gavião sit second in the table with three points from one game, while Altamira remain third but have now lost three of four matches, accumulating just a single point. The gap between them is already noticeable in the standings.
Gavião's only previous fixture ended in a narrow 1:0 win over Paraúapobas, and since then they have been selective with results — a heavy defeat to Atlético Paraense followed by another loss to Sport Belém before that first victory. Altamira have not managed to find a winning formula either, with defeats to Atlético Paraense in two separate outings and the earlier meeting against Gavião.
The two sides crossed paths on October 15 last year, when Gavião won 3:1 away at Altamira. The pattern has not shifted; the home side controlled the tempo and saw out the game without conceding, completing a clean sheet on both occasions.
Altamira cannot afford another slip if they hope to climb away from the bottom half. Gavião, with their unbeaten run still intact, can afford to be patient as the season unfolds.
