Bolivar secured a 1-0 away victory over Gualterto Villarroel in the opening Group Stage match of the Professional Division Cup on Tuesday evening. The hosts had to cope with a red card in the first half but could not find an equaliser despite late pressure. D. Batallini's penalty in the 69th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The match turned volatile around the 30th minute when L. Justiniano was shown a red card. J. Sagredo picked up a yellow card in the same period, and J. Ramallo was booked at 35 minutes. S. Villarroel collected two yellows and a red by the 50th minute, while A. Landa went offside's way with a caution at 45+6.
Bolivar dominated possession with 66 per cent and created more chances, registering eight shots on target compared to four for the hosts. Both sides had a goal ruled out by VAR through B. Miranda at 55 and 74 minutes, leaving the visitors to rely on their penalty opportunity. The score remained tight despite the statistical advantage.
Coaches made several changes in the second half. R. Orihuela was substituted at 46 minutes, and Bolivar brought on M. Cauteruccio, L. Paz, and B. Arce together at 66 minutes. R. Monteiro, Matheus Moresche, L. Vargas, M. Aviles, J. Velasquez, and B. Miranda completed the rotational round.
The hosts managed 53 attacks and three corners, while Bolivar recorded 94 attacks and seven corners. Shots accuracy sat at 36 per cent for Gualterto Villarroel and 50 per cent for the visitors. The result leaves Bolivar with three points after one game in the group stage.
