Ibiza beat Peña Deportiva 5:0 in a club friendly on Thursday 14 August. The hosts were never really challenged and ran out comfortable winners at home. It was a straightforward afternoon for the home side, who made it count when it mattered.
I. Varela opened the scoring in the twelfth minute, catching the away defence out. G. Rodriguez doubled the lead before the break with a forty-first minute strike. Yoldi made it three early in the second half, then A. Yoldi added another in the fifty-seventh minute.
And here's the thing — the game was already done by then. J. Calavera netted twice in quick succession, in the seventy-third and seventy-fifth minutes, before G. Nsukula rounded off the scoring in the eightieth. Seven goals in total, though the result line reads five-nil.
Ibiza dominated the numbers. They recorded seventy-nine attacks against forty-eight for the visitors, and held sixty-three per cent of possession. Corners were five to three, and Ibiza won twenty-one free kicks compared to thirteen.
To be fair, the away side had four yellow cards to Ibiza's two, which told you something about the frustration levels. But the stats don't lie — many chances went begging on the other side of the pitch.
For Ibiza, it was another clean sheet in a pre-season run. For Peña Deportiva, not much to take from a day where they were second best throughout.
