Lokomotiv Plovdiv beat Chernomorets Varna 1-0 in the Bulgarian First League on Saturday. It was the eighth round of the regular season, played at the Lokomotiv Stadium. The hosts held on for what turned out to be all three points.
And here's the thing — the decisive moment came early. Ryan Leijten found the net in the twenty-first minute, and by then the match had its shape. Chernomorets controlled possession with 61 per cent but couldn't turn that into chances. Lokomotiv had 115 attacks to their opponents' 153, but the numbers don't tell the full story.
We had called a home win before kick-off, confidence sitting at 42 per cent. To be fair, it wasn't a bold prediction given how Lokomotiv had been struggling. They'd lost their last four league games — 0-2 to ЦСКА 1948, 0-1 against Арда Кърджали, 1-2 to Дунав Русе, and defeats to Левски София and Спартак Варна. But this was different. They picked up two bookings in five minutes around the hour mark, then rode their luck when Chernomorets threw everything at it.

Lokomotiv made six changes in total, with Parvizdzhon Umarbaev and Ryan Leijton coming off together in the seventy-seventh minute. Ivan Tasev and emanuil nyagolov replaced each other in the seventieth.
The statistics tell you about the imbalance. Chernomorets had six shots on target against four, and 153 attacks to 115. But shots accuracy sat at 0.4 for both sides, and Lokomotiv's goalkeeper — Boyan Milosavljevic — had nothing to do all evening. Corners were level at three each, and the goal kicks told their own tale: fifteen for the hosts, three for the visitors.
By then it was clear enough. Lokomotiv moved to eleven points at eleventh place, Chernomorets stayed on four in thirteenth. The gap between them is widening now, and for Lokomotiv this was the kind of result that keeps you in it. They held their nerve after the early goal, and sometimes that's all you need.
