Nanking City and Nantun Zhiyun shared points in a 1:1 draw during League One's regular season round 18 on Friday, 8 August. The hosts found themselves behind before half-time, only to level through a late strike from Dong Honglin.
E. Gonzalez gave Nantun Zhiyun the lead in the 45th minute, capitalising on a moment of space in the penalty area. The away side had dominated possession throughout the opening half, and Gonzalez took his chance when it appeared.
And here's the thing — Nanking City refused to stay down. Dong Honglin equalised four minutes into stoppage time, catching the defence flat-footed after a quick transition. One mistake ends it, and Nantun Zhiyun paid for that lapse.
The match grew increasingly physical as the first half closed. Hu Mingfei and Bruno Baio both picked up bookings in the 44th minute, while Dong Honglin's yellow arrived in the 39th. A. Kalulu collected the fourth caution of the half in the 48th minute.
Substitutions began in earnest after the interval. Yang Dejiang came on for Nanking City in the 65th minute, followed by Hu Mingfei's replacement in the 68th. Bruno Baio and Zhu Qiwen were switched in the 78th and 83rd minutes respectively, with A. Kalulu among the final changes at 90+3.
The statistics told their own story. Nantun Zhiyun controlled 77 per cent of possession and registered 519 passes compared to Nanking City's 160. Yet the visitors created five big chances while the hosts managed only one, and both sides ended with identical shot accuracy around 0.22.
The point kept Nanking City rooted to 14th place with 21 points from 22 games, while Nantun Zhiyun moved to 36 points and fourth. The result did little to shift the gap between the two sides, but it extended a run of mixed form for both teams.
