Pohang Steelers and Gangwon FC played out a goalless draw in K-League 1's 26th round at Kangnён Stadium on Saturday evening. The result leaves Gangwon sitting second on 32 points while Pohang remain fourth with 28, and neither side gained ground on the other.
And here's the thing about matches like this — you remember the moments that mattered. Wanderson picked up a yellow card at the half-hour mark, and A. Hleihel followed his example late on. Between them came a flurry of changes, particularly around the hour when Gangwon brought on three players in quick succession.
Pohang had come into this having won four of their last five, including a 2-1 victory over Jeju United on Wednesday. Gangwon were less consistent, dropping points against Gwangju in a 2-2 draw on Friday before that loss to Bucheon. To be fair, neither side looked particularly dangerous going forward.
The substitutions tell their own story. Gangwon threw on Park Sang-Hyeok at 61 minutes, followed by Cho Sang-Hyeok and Ki Sung-Yueng within two minutes. Ki was then replaced himself at 63, and Cho again at the same time — a double change that suggested frustration. There is no value left in pretending either manager had a plan that worked. Gangwon needed the points badly to keep pressure on the leaders, but they found themselves facing a wall that refused to break. Pohang, meanwhile, were content to keep their side in it and see out the remaining 15 minutes without taking unnecessary risks.
By then the game had settled into a rhythm neither team could disrupt. The final whistle brought little surprise — two sides that had shown more promise in recent weeks meeting in a draw that suited neither purpose. Gangwon stay second, Pohang fourth, and the gap between them remains four points after 26 rounds.
