Prostons Hold Up in Penalty Shootout After Gibson Red Card
Prostons and Huddersfield drew 1-1 after extra time in the Round of 128 of the League Cup on 8 August 2026. The result sent the tie to penalties, where Huddersfield converted five of their six attempts while Prostons missed two. R. Balker put Prostons ahead in the 38th minute after a lively opening spell.
Lewis Gibson was sent off in the 21st minute and that changed the shape of things. Prostons had already seen L. Gooch and A. Vukcevic booked before the dismissal, and J. Erabi added a second yellow for Prostons in the 90th minute. Huddersfield picked up three yellows of their own, including one for A. McCann in the 69th minute.
Erabi equalised for Prostons in the 90th minute and the game went to extra time. The shootout was a mess. Prostons missed R. Ledson and M. Harness, while Huddersfield missed A. Moran. In the end Huddersfield advanced with a 5-3 verdict on spots.
Huddersfield had more of the ball at 54 per cent and launched 100 attacks compared to Prostons 76. They created four big chances against Prostons one, but only two shots found the target. Prostons were sharper inside the box with ten shots inside the penalty area, yet their shooting accuracy sat at 30 per cent.
