Racing Union Luxembourg beat UN Kayl-Tétange 97 5-1 in the opening round of the National Division regular season on 2 August. The hosts took all three points despite Kayl-Tétange holding 54 per cent of possession, and here's the thing — the scoreline told only half the story of a match decided by moments rather than control.
D. Stolz opened the scoring in the second minute and never looked back. R. Moutschen added a second just before the quarter-hour mark, and Stolz completed his hat-trick with strikes in the 29th and 39th minutes. By then Racing had already set the tone, and Kayl-Tétange found no answer to a side that kept knocking on the door.
The visitors pulled one back through R. Matuvangua on the stroke of half-time, but F. Ikene restored the three-goal margin almost immediately after the break. Racing did not let the tie drift away. Things came to a head early and never settled.
Statistics showed an odd picture. Kayl-Tétange registered 113 attacks against 91 for Racing, yet the hosts converted more efficiently. Both sides won six corners apiece, but Racing kept a clean sheet on offsides with just one compared to five for the visitors. The hosts also picked up one yellow card while the visitors took two.
The result moves Racing to 13 points from six games, keeping them in fourth place with four wins, one draw and one loss. Kayl-Tétange remain eighth on nine points, three wins and three defeats. The gap between them widens by four points, and Racing now hold a comfortable cushion over the mid-table pack.
