U. Marandi opened the scoring for Railways in the 41st minute, but Mohun Bagan Super Giant turned the game around before half-time. M. Singh headed home shortly after the interval, and R. Mandi made it 2:1 in the 52nd minute. S. A. Bhat added a fourth goal in the 78th minute to seal the victory.
By then the match had settled into a pattern the visitors understood well. They controlled the tempo after going ahead and did not travel to make up the numbers. Railways had their moments but could not find a second response.
The guests arrive on a good run, having won six of nine league games this season. Their last five results show three victories, a draw and a defeat, while their most recent outing ended 6:0 against George Telegraph. The hosts sit 17th with 11 points from ten matches and are looking for consistency after a 2:2 draw with Bhawaniipur last time out.
The gap between the sides widens to eight points, and the visitors now hold a comfortable cushion above the mid-table pack. Railways cannot afford another slip if they want to climb out of the lower reaches of the standings.
