Bjelovar came from behind to beat Slavonija Požega 4-3 in the opening round of the Second NL regular season on Saturday. The visitors, who sit ninth on three points after two games, showed resilience to overturn a deficit and take all three points in Požega. The hosts, meanwhile, remain twelfth on a single point after drawing their first match and losing this one.
Požega took an early lead through R. Sangulin in the 37th minute, but Bjelovar responded with three goals in quick succession. M. Martinovic equalised in the 61st minute, followed by P. Pejic in the 66th and T. Jankovic in the 70th to put the visitors ahead. F. Medic then doubled his tally in the 77th minute to extend Bjelovar's advantage.
Požega refused to go quietly. M. Peric pulled one back in the 81st minute to set up a nervous finish, but Medic struck again in stoppage time to secure the victory. The Croatian side ended a barren spell with this win, having drawn their previous outing against Križevci.
The result leaves Bjelovar two points clear of Slavonija Požega in the table, though both sides have played two matches. Požega's single point comes from their draw in their opening fixture, while Bjelovar's three points follow a win and a draw in their first two games.
