Wolfsburg Women beat Inter Milan Women 2-0 in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday at the AOС Stadium. Lara Prašnikar opened the scoring just before half-time, and Camilla Küver doubled the lead shortly after the break. Inter were reduced to ten players when Chiara Robustellini was sent off in the forty-ninth minute, a moment that shifted the contest entirely.
By then the visitors had already shown they could be dangerous on the counter. Inter created one big chance of their own but could not convert, while Wolfsburg found themselves with more room to operate once the red card went to review. The hosts took their opportunity, with Küver's goal coming in the fifty-second minute after Inter's defence had begun to look stretched.
Inter made several changes in an attempt to get back into the game, bringing on Clarisse Le Bihan and Benedetta Glionna on the hour mark. Smilla Vallotto, Cora Zicai and Lieske Carleer also came off for the visitors, while Wolfsburg replaced Prašnikar herself in the sixty-third minute. Svenja Huth picked up a yellow card late on, but the result was never really in doubt.
Wolfsburg dominated possession at sixty-one per cent and fired eighteen shots, eleven of them on target. Inter managed only two shots on target and had to make nine saves to keep the scoreline respectable. The statistics tell you what you already saw — many shots with one goal means chances went begging, and here Inter gave nothing away in attack despite having a player for most of the second half.
The win moves Wolfsburg into the next stage of the competition, while Inter will need to reflect on a match where they were out-thought on the touchline. The red card changed everything, but even without it the visitors struggled to create real opportunities against a side that knew how to control the tempo.
