The **UEFA Women's Champions League** stands as the premier European club competition for women's football, organized by the continental governing body. It evolved from its 2001 inception as the UEFA Women's Cup, a name change occurring in 2009 to align with the men's tournament and expand participation to include runners-up from top-ranked nations. The competition represents the top tier of European women's club football, distinct from domestic leagues through its continental scope and knockout-heavy structure following the league phase.
For the current 2026 season, the format has undergone significant restructuring. The traditional group stage has been replaced by an 18-team League Phase utilising a Swiss-system format. Within this phase, each team plays six matches. The top four teams advance directly to the quarter-finals, while those ranked fifth to twelfth enter knockout play-offs. Progression continues through two-legged ties in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, culminating in a single-match final held at a neutral venue.
Qualification operates via a dual-path system. The Champions Path is reserved for domestic champions from lower-ranked associations, whereas the League Path accommodates runners-up and third-placed teams from higher-ranked associations. Teams eliminated in the early qualifying rounds transfer to the UEFA Women's Europa Cup, a new second-tier competition launched for the 2025–26 season. This Europa Cup serves as a pure knockout tournament and provides a pathway back to the Champions League for its winner, distinguishing itself from the Champions League in prestige, format, and prize money.
Olympique Lyonnais holds the record for the most titles with eight wins, including consecutive victories between 2016 and 2020. Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Barcelona each possess four titles. Barcelona currently holds the title, having secured the 2025–26 championship. Barcelona are listed among the participating clubs alongside 1899 Hoffenheim Women, AC Milan Women, AEK Athens Women, Agram Women, Ajax Women, and Aktobe Women.
