Glentoran Women

Eleven Women's Premiership titles separate Glentoran from every other side in Northern Ireland. In 2020 the club took all four available trophies in a single year, and in 2021 held all four at once, a run of dominance no other Northern Irish women's side has matched.

The team traces back to Glentoran Belfast United, formed in 1985 as the growth of women's football in the region, spurred by the founding of the Northern Ireland Women's Football Association nine years earlier, gave the game a foothold in Belfast. Cheryl Lamont did much of the early administrative and coaching work that kept the side running before it folded into Glentoran F.C. proper and inherited the parent club's green, red and black.

Kerry Beattie took the Golden Boot in 2023 with 28 goals; Lauren Wade moved on to Chelsea and Leeds United, while goalkeeper Jacqueline Burns has played for Chelsea and Häcken. Jess Foy has captained the side and earned more than 20 caps for Northern Ireland in midfield.

Matches against Linfield Women carry their own name, the Big Two derby, because the two clubs have simply won more than anyone else in the league's history. Home games are now played at Blanchflower Stadium, the training ground next to the Oval that holds 3,000, after years at the Oval itself.

What began in 1985 as an independent side finding its feet in a young women's league is now a prominent club in Northern Irish football.
