The women's side traces back to Cliftonville Girls, who joined the Women's Premier League in 2004, though exactly when the section started is not settled — some accounts point to 2003. What is clearer is 2016, when the Northern Ireland Football League took over running the women's game and Cliftonville became a founding member of the new Women's Premiership.
They play at Solitude, shared with the men's team, where safety restrictions on the old Main Stand have cut the usable capacity well below the ground's listed 6,224. In March 2023 Cliftonville became the first club in Irish league football to hand out professional contracts to women players. John McGrady has managed since January 2021 and delivered the club's first league title in 2022, adding a second in 2024.
European football arrived in 2023/24, and Benfica beat them 8-1 in a first qualifying round that ended with a lone consolation goal from Caitlin McGinness. This season's return brought more encouragement: a win over Kosovo's Mitrovica before Georgian side Lanchkhuti edged them out 2-1.
