US Mondor-lès-Bains took all three points with a 3:2 victory over Victoria Rosport in the National Division on Sunday. The away side recovered from behind to win in Regular Season round 2, played on 9 August at Victoria's ground.
K. Estrada opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and S. Goncalves doubled the lead before half-time. H. Far pulled one back for the hosts in the thirty-ninth, but C. Steinmetz restored the two-goal advantage after the interval. L. Walbrecq then struck in the seventy-eighth minute to seal the win.
By then Mondor-lès-Bains had already shown they were not going to let the game slip. They registered 112 attacks against 85, and won seven corners to one. To be fair, the visitors kept their shape better when the home side pressed, and that is what separated the two sides in the end.
Possession was almost even at 51 per cent to 49, but the figures tell only part of the story. Victoria managed just one free kick and zero goal kicks, while Mondor-lès-Bains picked up three yellow cards. The extra pressure on the home side showed in those numbers.
The result moves Mondor-lès-Bains further clear at the top of the table. They sit second with 18 points from six wins, while Victoria remains in thirteenth with four points from one victory and one draw.
And here's the thing — the visitors have kept their perfect record intact. They beat Differdange 03 3:2 two days ago, and now they have added another away win to that tally. Victoria's run of results has not improved, not with losses to Differdange 03 and UN Käerjeng among their recent defeats.
