Stockport County rout Wigan at home
Stockport County hammered Wigan 4-0 in League One on Saturday evening. The visitors scored three times in the opening twenty-one minutes and never looked back. Wigan, sitting fourteen points adrift at the bottom, were thoroughly outplayed.
Kyle Wootton opened the scoring in the tenth minute after good work down the left. Harry Wood doubled the lead just nine minutes later, and Jack Diamond made it three before half-time. Connor Barrett and James Carragher picked up bookings for Wigan as they struggled to contain the visitors.
Stockport manager made changes to rest his key players after the break. Harry Wood and Oliver Norwood came off together in the sixty-third minute, while Wigan brought on Charlie Gray and Reggie Walsh just before the interval. The visitors added a fourth goal through Ryan Glover in the ninetieth minute to seal the result.
The statistics tell the story of a one-sided affair. Both sides held fifty percent possession, but Stockport's efficiency was clear. They registered eight shots on target compared to Wigan's single effort, and their fifty percent shot accuracy contrasted sharply with the hosts' eleven percent.
Wigan created three big chances but could not convert, while Stockport found the net from four of their efforts. The visitors also won more aerial duels and made more interceptions, showing they controlled the tempo throughout.
The result leaves Wigan rooted to the foot of the table with just three points from five games. Stockport move up to third place with nine points and have now won three of their five matches this season.
