Carter Gordon out for months with broken leg
The Wallabies playmaker fractured his leg late in the 28-28 draw with Argentina, ruling him out of the Springboks Test and Bledisloe Cup series.
Gordon went down in agony attacking the line late in Saturday's 28-28 draw with Argentina in Mendoza. The squad does not fly back into Australia until Monday night, but scans taken after the match showed the 25-year-old had broken his leg.
The injury rules him out of the 26 September Test against South Africa in Perth and both Tests of next month's Bledisloe Cup series. There is hope he could be fit to face England at Twickenham on 8 November.
It follows a serious back injury that cut short his NRL stint and a string of leg complaints since he returned to rugby just over a year ago.
Ben Donaldson wore the No.10 jersey against Los Pumas for the first time in two years and did not settle the contest. Tom Lynagh, back from a long injury lay-off, returns for the Reds against the Western Force on Saturday and will press his own case, while Declan Meredith, who started three Tests this year and toured Argentina, and Harry McLaughlin-Phillips at the Force are also in the frame. Test veterans James O'Connor and Bernard Foley return to Super Rugby Pacific next year with World Cup ambitions of their own, though neither features in Super Rugby AU.
