Johnson: England's Six Nations pain can aid World Cup
Martin Johnson says England's toughest losses under Steve Borthwick, including to Ireland and South Africa, will help them prepare for next year's Rugby World Cup.
Martin Johnson believes the heaviest defeats England suffered under Steve Borthwick this year can still pay off at next year's Rugby World Cup in Australia.
«The bad experiences, the losing, it’s not wasted experience,».
England's Six Nations campaign brought a 42-21 loss to Ireland at Twickenham and a single win, against Wales. The Summer Nations Championship opened with a defeat away to world champions South Africa, before wins over Fiji and Argentina followed. Johnson called the Six Nations "up and down" under Borthwick.
Johnson, who captained England to the World Cup in 2003 and coached the side from 2008 to 2011, said the March defeat by France that closed the Six Nations was "one of the best games of rugby I've ever watched".
He was speaking as patron of the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust, which is using SADS week to call for free sudden cardiac arrest training across sport.
