Akpe Victor

Victor Akpe stands 195 centimetres tall. Born in Abuja, the centre-back began in Nigerian academy football with Hyraj Football Academy in Lagos and Maracana FC Zuba before making the move to Europe. His first stop was Lithuania's FK Banga, where he spent a spell before a January move to Zalaegerszegi TE brought him into Hungarian football.

At Zalaegerszegi, Akpe wears the number 55 shirt and became part of a squad competing in the Hungarian top flight, the NB I. In the end he chose a different path, agreeing a move to FC Basel in the Swiss Super League.

The fee for a defender his age was notable — reports put the deal at around three million euros, built up from a lower base figure plus add-ons — and he signed a long-term contract with the Swiss club. It marks a rapid rise for a player who only left Nigerian academy football a short time earlier, passing through Lithuania and Hungary before arriving in Switzerland's top division. He plays right-footed and is right at home as a centre-back.
