About the player
André Martins de Sousa came through Vitória Setúbal's academy after a spell in Benfica's youth ranks, then went back to Vitória to make his senior debut in 2017. He stayed for four years, making 74 official appearances and scoring his only senior goal in the Campeonato de Portugal in the 2020/21 season, after the club had been relegated. The high point of his time there came earlier, in 2019/20, when Vitória reached the Taça da Liga final, though Sporting CP denied them the trophy.
A free transfer took him to Nacional in July 2021, making 90 appearances over three years without adding to his goal tally. In September 2024 he left Portugal for the first time, joining Slovenia's Maribor on a one-year deal. That stay was brief: in July 2025 he returned home to sign for Paços de Ferreira until 2027.
At youth level, Sousa was capped seven times for Portugal's under-20 side in the U20 Elite League across the 2017/18 and 2019/20 seasons, though a senior call-up has not followed.
