Birnir Snær Ingason

At the end of the 2023 season Birnir Snær Ingason was voted the best player in the Besta deild karla. It capped two years at Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur that gave him almost everything he had not had before: the league title in 2023, the Bikar Íslands in both 2022 and 2023, and the Súperbikar Íslands in 2022. He had arrived in January 2022 on a free transfer and left having played 51 league matches and scored 17 goals.

The route there was slower. He came through the youth ranks at UMF Fjölnir until 2013, made his senior debut for the club in 2014 and stayed five seasons, 64 league appearances and 12 goals. A free move to Valur in January 2019 brought only 10 league appearances and one goal; the club won the Besta deild karla that year. By August he had joined HK Kópavogur, where he found a way through more regularly — 12 goals in 47 league games across two and a half seasons.

His move abroad came in January 2024, when Halmstads BK signed him on a free transfer and handed him a three-year contract. He scored four times in 31 league appearances in Sweden. In July 2025 he returned to Iceland on loan at KA Akureyri and scored five goals in 12 league matches, and in February 2026 he signed for Stjarnan on a free transfer, on a deal running to 31 December 2028. By July 2026 he had made 14 league appearances for the club, scoring twice.

He made his debut for Iceland on 13 January 2024, in a friendly against Guatemala that Iceland won 1–0. He has two caps and has yet to score for the national team.
