Bernardo Fontes

Bernardo Fontes conceded 52 goals in 32 matches last season and still finished the campaign as the busiest goalkeeper in Liga Portugal by number of saves.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Fontes came through Flamengo's youth ranks in Brazil before moving to Portugal to join Braga's academy at under-19 level. He holds Brazilian and Italian nationality but not Portuguese, which means he counts as a foreign player in Portuguese football.

He spent three seasons with Braga B in the Portuguese second tier before leaving in July 2024 to join Tondela on a permanent deal that included a shared-ownership arrangement over his economic rights. The move paid off quickly: Tondela won promotion from Liga Portugal 2 to the top flight in the 2024/25 season, and Fontes was named the division's best goalkeeper.

The step up to Portugal's top division proved harder for the team, though Fontes's own numbers held up, with only his save count marking him out among the league's goalkeepers that season. In 2026 he returned to Braga.

He has represented Flamengo and Braga at youth level but has not been called up to a senior national team.
