Christopher Maurice Wooh

In stoppage time of the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 in January 2024, Christopher Wooh scored the goal that put Cameroon past Gambia. It was his first for the national side, after a qualifier against Burundi four months earlier, and it came from a defender who had only made his senior international debut in 2022.

Wooh started out at Puiseux Louvres and then Chantilly before joining the academy at Nancy in 2016. He spent three seasons with the reserve side, and his first senior appearance came in a Coupe de France tie against Sochaux in January 2021. Thirteen league games followed that season, enough for Lens to take him on a free transfer that July on a four-year deal, though he played only 15 league matches there.

Rennes paid around €9 million for him at the end of August 2022, and that is where he settled: 53 league appearances and one goal. He also travelled to the 2022 World Cup with Cameroon, and returned for the 2023 and 2025 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

His move to Spartak Moscow in September 2025 cost the club nothing in transfer fee — the contract runs to June 2029, with Rennes holding 20% of any future resale. He won the Russian Cup, was named the club's player of the month in March 2026, and has scored three times in 24 league appearances, with another goal in 11 cup games.
