About the player
Dereck Alessandro Moncada Arguijo made his senior debut for CD Olimpia on 1 February 2024, coming on in the 59th minute of a 4–0 away win over C.D. Vida in the Torneo Clausura — he was 16 at the time, the product of six years in the Olimpia academy after starting out at Talanga FC. He stayed with Olimpia until 2026, when Mexican side Necaxa signed him on a four-year contract in December 2025; the fee involved was not made public. During that spell he formed part of the portfolio held by the Tylis-Porter group, which also owns Necaxa.
His move from Necaxa to Switzerland's FC Lugano followed in May 2026, announced by the club on 20 May for a reported fee of around $3.5 million. CD Olimpia was in line to receive training compensation of roughly 4.5 million Honduran lempiras as part of the deal.
At international level, Moncada came through the Honduras under-20 side, scoring once in four appearances during qualifying for the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He was called up to the senior national team for a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua on 13 November 2025, making his debut at 17 — the youngest player to appear for Honduras since Amado Guevara in 1994. He has since gone on to earn four senior caps, featuring in further qualifiers and friendlies, though he is yet to score for the national side.
