About the player
Dmitri Skopintsev started out at a sports school in Voronezh before moving into Dynamo Moscow's academy in 2011 for a fee of 136,000 rubles. His path then took an unusual turn through Zenit St Petersburg's youth ranks and on to RB Leipzig, who paid €600,000 for him in June 2015 and immediately sent him out on loan to their Austrian farm club, FC Liefering, where he made 13 appearances.
Rostov brought him back to Russia in 2016 on a three-year deal, loaning him twice to Baltika Kaliningrad, where his 2017/18 season stood out: 24 appearances and 10 goals. After finishing that campaign and the next back at Rostov, he moved to Krasnodar in February 2019, then returned to Dynamo Moscow in January 2020 for a fee reported at €4.3 million, rising to €4.6 million with bonuses.
He has since extended his contract twice, most recently in July 2024 through to the end of the 2028/29 season, and has made more than 150 appearances for Dynamo. He won Russian Premier League bronze with the club in 2021/22 and 2023/24, and picked up individual recognition too: RPL Goal of the Month for July/August 2023 and VTB Player of the Month for November 2022. His senior international career began on 12 September 2023, when he played 45 minutes in a 1-1 friendly against Qatar, though he later spoke publicly about being left out of the national squad under coach Valeriy Karpin despite his club form. More recently, an injury spell and a run of games as a substitute under Marcell Lichka interrupted his place in the Dynamo side.
