About the player
Dan Neil is a product of the Sunderland academy, having joined the club from Hebburn Town in 2010 at the age of nine. He made his senior debut in November 2018 and went on to make more than 175 league appearances for the club, working his way up to captain. It was in that role that he led Sunderland to promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs in 2025.
Earlier in his career, Neil was an unused substitute as Sunderland won the EFL Trophy against Tranmere Rovers in the 2020–21 season, and he was named EFL Young Player of the Month in December 2021. Ipswich finished that campaign as Championship runners-up.
With his Sunderland contract at an end, Neil signed for Rangers on a free transfer on 1 July 2026, agreeing to a three-year deal.
