Dimitar Tonev

Dimitar Tonev came through the Botev Plovdiv academy and made his first-team debut in October 2019, signing his first professional contract a few months later, in January 2020. Between 2021 and 2024 he split time with the club's reserve side, Botev II.

The next stretch of his career was defined by loan spells away from Plovdiv. In January 2023 he moved to Pirin Blagoevgrad for the remainder of the season, then spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Krumovgrad.

Tonev left Plovdiv on 1 January 2025, joining Cherno More Varna as a free agent on a contract running to the end of 2027. At Cherno More he played in the efbet Liga: in the 2025/26 season alone he played 14 league matches, scoring once and setting up two further goals, and across his time at the club he reached 33 appearances and four goals. In September 2025 he missed a fixture against Arda Kardzhali through injury, though the nature of the problem was not disclosed.

He was capped three times for the under-19s, scoring once, in 2019, and added five appearances and two goals for the under-21s in 2021 and 2022. A senior call-up has not followed.

In the summer of 2026, Tonev returned to Botev Plovdiv, the club where his career began.
