Fernando Tapia

Fernando Tapia came through América's own academy, joining in 2017 and working his way from Sub-13 level to Sub-20, where he made 63 appearances. Along the way he won the Mexican championship with the Sub-17 side in the 2018 Apertura. His first-team debut came in 2022, in the Leagues Cup against Nashville, where he played 51 minutes and conceded once.

Loan spells followed at Venados and Querétaro in 2023. In 2024 he joined Tigres UANL, where he served as third-choice goalkeeper behind Nahuel Guzmán. He returned to América in January 2026, after the club bought back the remaining rights to his registration from Tigres.

Tapia's most notable international run came with Mexico's under-23 side. He was part of the squad that won gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2023 and took bronze at that year's Pan American Games. At the 2024 Maurice Revello Tournament, he saved a penalty in a shootout against Korea. He has made eight appearances for the U23 national team in total.

He was named to the Liga MX All-Star squad in 2024.

Now back at América wearing the number 21 shirt, Tapia has made 30 league appearances and 35 across all competitions to date.
