About the player
Hijiri Onaga made his senior debut with V-Varen Nagasaki in 2017, arriving straight from Chuo University after coming through the youth ranks at Kakogawa Kanno SC and Kanno SC in his native Hyogo Prefecture. He had already gone through Teikyo Daisan High School before university football, and that first spell in Nagasaki proved substantial: 96 league appearances between 2017 and 2019 before a move to Omiya Ardija in 2020, where he added a further 60 league outings over two seasons.
The most productive stretch of Onaga's career came at FC Machida Zelvia. He joined the club in 2022 and became a fixture in the side, making 81 league appearances and scoring three goals during the 2023 campaign. That season, Machida won the J2 League title, a result that secured the club's first-ever promotion to the J1 League, with Onaga a key part of the squad that achieved it.
He moved on to Tokyo Verdy in 2024, playing 61 times across two seasons there, before returning in 2025 to V-Varen Nagasaki, the club where his senior career began. Since rejoining, the left-back has made 36 league appearances as the 2025/2026 season has progressed.
