About the player
Heinz Lindner came through the Austria Wien academy, making 166 league appearances and lifting the Austrian Bundesliga title in 2012–13 before a free move to Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt yielded a DFB-Pokal runner-up medal but only two league outings, and the goalkeeper rebuilt his career through Grasshopper Zürich, SV Wehen Wiesbaden and then FC Basel, where over 67 league matches he recorded the most clean sheets in the Swiss Super League in 2021–22.
At FC Sion, where he signed in 2022, Lindner's career took its most serious turn. In May 2023 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery, ruling him out for the rest of that season and the whole of the following campaign with the first team; he made only two outings for Sion's reserve side that November. A loan to Union Saint-Gilloise in January 2024 brought a single appearance, and he returned to Sion for 2024–25 before moving on a free transfer to BSC Young Boys in July 2025.
Internationally, Lindner made his Austria debut in June 2012 against Ukraine and has gone on to earn 37 caps.
