About the player
Isaac James arrived at FC Lorient from Nigeria in the summer of 2022. Once the paperwork cleared, the left-back settled into Championnat National 2, where he made 41 appearances and scored three goals across three seasons.
He had come out of Garden City Panthers, the club where he started in Nigeria. Before France there was a detour north: in November 2021 he completed a trial at Midtjylland in Denmark. The move that followed was to Lorient, on 1 July 2022, for an undisclosed fee.
The first-team call came on 24 August 2024, in Ligue 2 against Grenoble. Seven league appearances followed that season, plus one in the Coupe de France — a modest return in minutes, but James was in the squad that won the Ligue 2 title in 2024–25 and went up to Ligue 1.
He did not go with them. On 2 July 2025 he joined Alverca on a free transfer, signing until 30 June 2027, and made 19 appearances in the Primeira Liga in his first season there. His display against Sporting CP drew a match rating of 8.2.
James has represented Nigeria at under-20 level and remains uncapped by the senior side.
