About the player
Some strikers announce themselves gradually. Itsuki Someno did it in a semi-final, scoring a hat-trick against Aomori Yamada at the 2018 National High School Soccer Championship while at Shoshi High School and finishing that tournament as its top scorer. The performance carried him into the Kashima Antlers senior squad in 2020, though he built his career not in Kashima's shirt but away from it.
In the summer of 2022, Kashima loaned Someno to J2 League side Tokyo Verdy. The move suited both parties well enough that the loan was extended twice, through the 2023 and 2024 seasons. It was in 2023 that Someno became central to Tokyo Verdy's push for promotion, scoring six league goals and adding another in the promotion play-offs. That goal came in the biggest moment of the club's season: the decisive penalty against Mito Hollyhock in the J1/J2 promotion play-off final in December 2023, which sent Tokyo Verdy up to the J1 League.
The loan arrangement was made permanent in December 2024, when Tokyo Verdy announced Someno's transfer would take effect for the 2025 season.
