Jonathan Buatu

Nine clubs in seven seasons, and the one that finally stuck is Gil Vicente . Jonathan Buatu arrived in Barcelos in January 2024 for €500,000 and has since played 57 matches, scoring twice. In July 2025 he extended his contract to 2028.

The early years read very differently. Buatu came through the academies of RFC Liège, Saint-Louis Athus, Montegnée and Standard Liège, and joined Standard's first team in 2009. Three seasons there produced one appearance. A move to KRC Genk in 2012 brought no first-team debut at all. Fulham signed him in the summer of 2013; over two years in England he played no competitive fixtures for the senior side, and the club did not renew his contract in 2015.

Two seasons at Sint-Truiden brought 38 games and a goal. He joined Valenciennes as a free agent in 2022 and made 40 appearances in Ligue 2, scoring three times.

For Angola , Buatu has become a fixture. He scored in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Gabon on 8 October 2021, and again against Eswatini in 2026 qualifying. He was part of the squads for the 2019 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and was called up in December 2025 for the 2025 edition.

An injury kept him out between 31 January and 25 February 2025. He returned, and Gil Vicente kept him on.
