About the player
Luca Oyen was born in Nottingham while his father was playing for Nottingham Forest, though he holds Belgian citizenship and has built his career, and his international career, with Belgium. A right-footed player who operates mainly on the left, either as a winger or a midfielder, he joined the KRC Genk academy in 2009 and stayed within the club's structures until 2020, when he made his first-team debut against Zulte Waregem. That season ended with the Belgian Cup, the only major trophy of his career so far.
Oyen's path through Genk's first team was disrupted by a serious knee injury, which pushed him to the margins of the squad and eventually back down to the reserve side, Jong Genk.
At youth international level, Oyen has moved steadily up the Belgian age groups, from the U15s through to the U21s.
