Lars Unnerstall

Lars Unnerstall came through Schalke 04's academy after starting out with SV Uffeln, Grün-Weiß Steinbeck and Preußen Münster, and broke into the first team in 2011. He spent most of his time there as understudy to Ralf Fehmann, though he still collected a DFL-Supercup in 2011. A loan to FC Aarau in Switzerland followed before he left permanently for Fortuna Düsseldorf, then moved on to VVV-Venlo on a free transfer. PSV Eindhoven signed him in 2018 but sent him straight back to VVV-Venlo on loan for a season before he finally established himself at PSV itself in 2019.

Since joining FC Twente on a free transfer in 2021, Unnerstall has become the club's first-choice goalkeeper, a status reflected in a contract that has since been extended to 2027. It is at Twente that his numbers have stood out most: he topped the Eredivisie for clean sheets in 2022/23 with 18, alongside the division's best save percentage at 78.2%, then led the league again in 2023/24 with another 18 clean sheets. In 2024/25 he added 11 more, level with Ajax's Remko Pasveer for the most in the competition that season.

At international level, Unnerstall's involvement with Germany has stayed at youth level. He made two appearances for the U20 side in 2010, against Switzerland and Poland, and received a U21 call-up in 2011 without adding to his caps there. He has not featured for the senior national team.
