About the player
He returned to Dynamo in June 2023 and made his senior bow that November, coming off the bench in a defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk. The first goal took until the following May, against Veres Rivne, and by August 2026 he had scored 17 times in 27 league appearances and had already finished as the Ukrainian Premier League's top scorer for the 2025–26 season with 13 goals, having won the league title and the Ukrainian Cup along the way.
Ponomarenko scored the winning goal in the semi-final as Ukraine won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2024, part of a haul of ten goals in 14 caps at that age group. The senior call-up followed in March 2026, and he needed only until the World Cup qualification play-off against Sweden to get off the mark, scoring on his debut.
Galatasaray and Porto were both linked with a move in 2026, with Dynamo Kyiv said to be holding out for a fee in the region of €25–30 million. No transfer went through.
