About the player
Karlovac is a Croatian city, but Matej Malenšek plays for Slovenia, having come through the Slovenian youth ranks at U18, U19 and U21 level, where he scored once in six appearances for the U21 side. A senior debut for either country has yet to arrive.
His football education began at NŠ Bela Krajina before he moved to NK Radomlje in 2022, working his way up to the first team. He made his senior bow in a 2-1 win over NK Celje that same season and went on to make around 60 appearances for the club, scoring a dozen goals. He was in prolific form at the start of the 2024/25 PrvaLiga campaign, top-scoring in the league's opening six rounds with five goals.
That run of form put him on the radar of Croatian clubs Dinamo Zagreb, Rijeka and Hajduk Split, but it was FK Jablonec in the Czech Republic who won the race for his signature, completing a transfer worth around €250,000 plus add-ons in late August 2025.
