Matthew Orr

Matthew Orr took the long way to Shanghai Port. His football began at the Kitchee academy in Hong Kong, but the middle of his development happened an ocean away, at the IMG Academy in the United States, followed by college soccer for the San Francisco Dons and then Syracuse Orange.

The return paid off quickly. Orr won back-to-back Hong Kong Premier League titles with Kitchee in 2019–20 and 2020–21, along with the Sapling Cup. He signed for Guangxi Pingguo Haliao for €30,000 in August 2022, a move into Chinese football that pushed his career forward: he was named China League One Player of the Month in June 2023 and, despite playing his club football on the mainland, picked up the Hong Kong Premier League Player of the Year award for the 2022–23 season.

A free transfer took him to Shenzhen Peng City in February 2024, where he stayed for two seasons before joining Shanghai Port on a free transfer in January 2026. Holding both Hong Kong and New Zealand citizenship, Orr has represented Hong Kong at international level and is regarded as a key part of the national team's forward line.
