Mauro Coto

Mauro Couto's move to Sporting CP began as a loan. Paços de Ferreira had given him his professional debut in September 2022 and signed him to his first professional contract the following January, but in September 2023 he was sent to Sporting CP B for the 2023–24 season. He repaid the loan with 12 league appearances and three goals, and on 1 January 2024 Sporting made the move permanent, activating a purchase option to sign him outright from Paços de Ferreira.

The following season brought his introduction to the first team. On 18 December 2024 he came on as a substitute in the 106th minute of a Taça de Portugal last-16 tie against Santa Clara, which Sporting won 2–1 after extra time. Four days later he made his Primeira Liga debut, replacing Brian Araújo in the 89th minute of a goalless draw against Gil Vicente. Those appearances aside, his football has continued to be built with the B team in Liga Portugal 2, where he remains contracted into 2027.

Couto has also represented Portugal through the youth ranks, collecting caps at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level and scoring for both the U19 and U20 sides. He has medals from Sporting's Portuguese Championship and Portuguese Cup wins with the first-team squad, while his own football has largely been played a level below at B-team and youth level.
