About the player
Oleg Smirnov came up through the Chertanovo academy before moving into senior football with FC Olimp-Dolgoprudnyi's reserve system. He spent three seasons with Olimp-Dolgoprudnyi-2, a stretch that gave him the bulk of his early playing time before he stepped up to Kosmos Dolgoprudny for the 2022/2023 season.
In January 2023, Smirnov moved to Veles in a transfer reported to be worth around €25,000–€27,000, signing a contract initially described as running for two and a half years. It marked his first move to a club outside the Dolgoprudny system that had shaped his development since leaving Chertanovo.
There is no record of him having represented Russia at any youth level or for the senior national team.
