Sergi Gómez Solà

Espanyol handed Sergi Gómez Solà the armband, and the season that followed was the hardest of his career. In 2022–23 the club went 31 consecutive matches without a win in games he played, a run that ran on until February 2023 and ended with relegation. He stayed for the answer: Espanyol went back up to La Liga in 2023–24.

He came through the FC Barcelona academy, joining in 2006, and his competitive debut for the first team came in the 2010 Supercopa de España — a title in his first senior appearance. Four years in Barcelona B followed, and in July 2014 he terminated his contract and moved to RC Celta de Vigo on a free transfer, signing for three years.

He left in July 2018 for Sevilla FC, for around €5 million fixed plus €4 million in variables on a four-year deal, and said afterwards that it hurt how the end with the Celta shirt had gone.

At Sevilla he was part of the squad that reached the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League final against Inter Milan, won 3–2. In March 2019 he was called into the senior Spain squad, though no cap followed. His medals came earlier: the 2011 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, and third place at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Across Spain's youth sides he collected 39 caps — 15 at U17, two at U18, 13 at U19 and nine at U21 — and played three times for Catalonia.

Espanyol signed him in July 2021 for a little over €1 million. In the summer of 2025 he moved to Portugal, joining F.C. Alverca on a two-year deal.
