Sergio Oregel Jr.

In 2018, aged 13, Sergio Oregel Jr. joined the Chicago Fire academy at U-14 level. He is the 22nd player in its history to travel the full route from the academy to the first team.

The move up was formalised on 23 October 2021, when Oregel signed a Homegrown Player contract that took effect on 1 January 2022. No fee changed hands; he came from the Fire's own system. In September 2025 he extended the agreement through the end of the 2028 season, with an option for 2029.

The year before he turned professional was his strongest as a youth player. Chicago's academy side won the MLS NEXT U-19 Championship in 2021, and Oregel was named the tournament's best player, taking the Golden Ball. Two years earlier he had won the US Youth Soccer National Championship with Raiders FC and collected the individual award there as well.

Between 2022 and 2024 he made 61 appearances for Chicago Fire II in MLS Next Pro and scored four goals.

He has not been called up by the senior national team.
