About the player
Stefán Teitur Þórðarson left Iceland as a teenager. Silkeborg IF took him to Denmark in 2020, and over four seasons in the Superliga he took his tally to 125 appearances and 16 goals by the time he left in July 2024.
That form earned him a move to English football, where Preston North End paid an undisclosed fee reported at around £700,000–£800,000 and handed him a three-year contract. He made 64 appearances for the Championship club, with three to his name before Hannover 96 signed him permanently in January 2026 on a deal running to 2029.
Internationally, Þórðarson has been a fixture for Iceland since making his senior debut against Canada in a friendly in January 2020. His only goal for the national side came in October 2021, in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein, and he has gone on to earn 37 caps.
