Wang Shenchao

Wang Shenchao joined the Genbao Football Academy in 2000 and was promoted to Shanghai East Asia's first team for the 2006 China League Two season, staying with the club through its rebranding to Shanghai SIPG in 2013 and to Shanghai Port in 2021, and has now made more than 400 appearances in the shirt.

His trophy haul has grown heavier in recent seasons: four Chinese Super League titles, in 2018, 2023, 2024 and 2025, a Chinese FA Cup in 2024, where he set up the opening goal in the 3-1 final win over Shandong Taishan, and a Chinese Super Cup in 2019, a 2-0 victory over Beijing Guoan. He was named in the CSL Team of the Year in 2017 and still made the CSL Team of the Month as recently as November 2025.

Wang made his China debut on June 7, 2017, in an 8-1 friendly win over the Philippines, and went on to win 21 caps by 2023 without scoring. He was a regular in the national side's defence through the 2022 World Cup Asian qualifiers, playing against Japan, Vietnam, Australia and Oman, and was part of the squad that took bronze at the 2019 EAFF E-1 Football Championship. His international career was interrupted in May 2018, when he was photographed wearing a necklace during a friendly against Myanmar and handed a one-year ban from the national team as a result.
