Aalborg Håndbold

The Gigantium Arena in Aalborg holds 5,500 for handball, and under the Sparekassen Danmark sponsorship name it has become one of the loudest rooms in Danish handball whenever Aalborg Håndbold reach a final at home.

The club itself only took that name in 2011, when the handball licence passed from AaB, the city's multi-sport club, into a new independent company set up by businessman Eigild B. Christensen and director Jan Larsen. Nine championships since 2010, four Danish Cups, eight Super Cups, and by 2024 a run deep enough to reach the EHF Champions League final, where FC Barcelona beat them. Aalborg went back the following year and lost to Barcelona again.

Domestically, the closest scores are settled against GOG; matches against Mors-Thy Håndbold carry the separate weight of a North Jutland derby. In October 2025 the club put that regional pull on a more formal footing, opening a handball academy under Allan Heine.

No one wears the story of the club better than Sander Sagosen. He first played in the red of Aalborg between 2014 and 2017, left as one of the sport's most sought-after backs, and returned in 2024.
