ASO Chlef

The side that would become ASO Chlef did not start under that name, or even under the town's own name. In 1947 it was Association Sportive d'Orléansville, set up by the Algerian Muslim community of the city to field a team against the settlers' club, Groupement Sportif Orléansville. Independence in 1962 brought a new town name, El Asnam, and the club followed it as Asnam Sportive Olympique; only in 2018 did the paperwork settle on Association Sportive Olympique de Chlef.

The club's single league title came in 2010–11, with Meziane Ighil in charge. The Algerian Cup has gone to Chlef twice: in 2004–05, settled by a single goal from Mohamed Messaoud against USM Sétif, and in 2022–23 against CR Belouizdad, won in extra time under coach Samir Zaoui, who had captained the club for years before moving to the bench.

Fixtures against MC Oran and ES Mostaganem carry the weight of the Derby de l'Ouest. On the continent, the 2011 title earned Chlef a run to the CAF Champions League group stage the following year, where the club got past Al-Hilal on penalties.

El Arbi Hillel Soudani passed through the club before his move abroad and his eventual call-ups for Algeria. The ground itself now holds close to 18,000.
