Nine World Series banners sit behind this franchise. The run through the 1970s under owner Charlie Finley brought three straight titles from 1972 to 1974, built around Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers and Catfish Hunter, and it was Finley who put the club in green and gold in 1963.
The championships trace back further than the colours, though. Philadelphia is where the club started, in 1901, as one of the American League's founding teams, and its first titles came in 1910, 1911 and 1913 before the Depression-era pennant winners of 1929 and 1930. Kansas City had the club for thirteen years starting in 1955, then Oakland took over in 1968 and kept it for the better part of six decades, long enough that Rickey Henderson's number and Dennis Eckersley's are retired there alongside the names from the Finley era.
None of that history is tied to Oakland anymore. The 2025 season opened with the team simply as the Athletics, the city dropped from the name, playing in West Sacramento while a permanent home in Las Vegas is built. Sutter Health Park, a minor-league park built for the Sacramento River Cats, now holds them: 14,014 seats.
